Everything you need to know to be a safe, professional, and successful helper on Local.
Before you accept your first booking with any family, you have the right โ and the responsibility โ to make sure it's a good fit for you.
Request a brief in-person or video meeting before your first session. This is your chance to meet the parents and children, see the home environment, and confirm you feel comfortable. You are never obligated to accept a booking you feel uncertain about.
If anything feels wrong โ the family's communication, the home environment, how the children behave โ you have the absolute right to decline or withdraw. Your safety always comes first. Report concerns to Local immediately.
Always tell your parent or guardian where you're going, the family's address, and expected return time. Check in during long sessions. Have a contact you can call if you need to leave early or feel unsafe.
Before every session, confirm via the Local app: date, time, duration, rate, number of children, and any special instructions. This protects both you and the family.
Be honest about your experience level. If you're 14, do not accept newborn care unless you have specific training. Only tutor subjects you genuinely know well.
Reliability is the foundation of your reputation on Local. Cancellations hurt families who are counting on you.
Cancel via the Local app at least 24 hours before the session. Message the family directly to explain. First-time cancellations with valid reasons will not affect your profile.
Cancellations within 24 hours are flagged on your profile. Three late cancellations within 60 days may result in a temporary suspension while Local reviews your account.
No-shows are a violation. Any no-show will result in immediate account review and can lead to removal from Local.
Genuine emergencies happen. If you must cancel within 1 hour of a session, contact Local directly AND message the family immediately.
You represent yourself, your family, and the Local community every time you take a session.
Arrive 5 minutes early whenever possible. If you will be late, message the family via Local immediately and give a realistic arrival time.
Using your phone for personal use during sessions or a job for Local is not allowed. Ex. texting, scrolling, and calls.
Keep all scheduling, questions, and follow-ups on the Local app โ it's how we protect both sides if anything goes wrong. Don't share personal phone numbers, social media handles, or payment details outside the platform.
Respect house rules, dietary restrictions, screen time limits, bedtime routines, and any other family guidelines. When in doubt, ask.
If anything concerning happens โ a child is injured, you witness unsafe behavior, or you feel threatened โ contact emergency services and your own emergency contacts immediately. Inform the Local team about the incident via email, phone call, or text.
