Teen Helper Guidelines

Everything you need to know to be a safe, professional, and successful helper on Local.

For Teens For Families

Important: Local's Roles & Limitations

Local verifies the identity of both teens and parents, but we are a platform โ€” not an employer, not an agency. You are an independent provider. Local is not responsible for workplace injuries, disputes between parties, or outcomes of sessions. By using Local, you accept full responsibility for assessing your own safety and professional conduct.

๐Ÿค Before Your First Session

Before you accept your first booking with any family, you have the right โ€” and the responsibility โ€” to make sure it's a good fit for you.

1
Meet the family first

Request a brief in-person or video meeting before your first session. This is your chance to meet the parents and children, see the home environment, and confirm you feel comfortable. You are never obligated to accept a booking you feel uncertain about.

2
Trust your instincts

If anything feels wrong โ€” the family's communication, the home environment, how the children behave โ€” you have the absolute right to decline or withdraw. Your safety always comes first. Report concerns to Local immediately.

3
Have an exit plan

Always tell your parent or guardian where you're going, the family's address, and expected return time. Check in during long sessions. Have a contact you can call if you need to leave early or feel unsafe.

4
Confirm session details in writing

Before every session, confirm via the Local app: date, time, duration, rate, number of children, and any special instructions. This protects both you and the family.

5
Only accept age-appropriate assignments

Be honest about your experience level. If you're 14, do not accept newborn care unless you have specific training. Only tutor subjects you genuinely know well.

๐Ÿ“… Cancellation & No-Show Policy

Reliability is the foundation of your reputation on Local. Cancellations hurt families who are counting on you.

โœ“ Standard Cancellation (24+ hours notice)

Cancel via the Local app at least 24 hours before the session. Message the family directly to explain. First-time cancellations with valid reasons will not affect your profile.

โš  Late Cancellation (under 24 hours)

Cancellations within 24 hours are flagged on your profile. Three late cancellations within 60 days may result in a temporary suspension while Local reviews your account.

โœ— No-Show (missing session without notice)

No-shows are a violation. Any no-show will result in immediate account review and can lead to removal from Local.

๐Ÿšจ Emergency Cancellations

Genuine emergencies happen. If you must cancel within 1 hour of a session, contact Local directly AND message the family immediately.

โญ Professional Standards

You represent yourself, your family, and the Local community every time you take a session.

1
Arrive on time โ€” always

Arrive 5 minutes early whenever possible. If you will be late, message the family via Local immediately and give a realistic arrival time.

2
No personal phone use during sessions

Using your phone for personal use during sessions or a job for Local is not allowed. Ex. texting, scrolling, and calls.

3
No Communication outside Local

Keep all scheduling, questions, and follow-ups on the Local app โ€” it's how we protect both sides if anything goes wrong. Don't share personal phone numbers, social media handles, or payment details outside the platform.

4
Follow customer instructions

Respect house rules, dietary restrictions, screen time limits, bedtime routines, and any other family guidelines. When in doubt, ask.

5
Report any concerns immediately

If anything concerning happens โ€” a child is injured, you witness unsafe behavior, or you feel threatened โ€” contact emergency services and your own emergency contacts immediately. Inform the Local team about the incident via email, phone call, or text.
